CANTIONALE

About

So, Cantionale is a place for the songs of the church. Hymns and worship songs in lots of languages, and every song has its own page.

What's here

Right now there are 949 songs here, in 4 languages, from 1 songbook. You can read the words of 686 of them on the site.

All of them are in the SangBoken app, which is free and has no ads. It's for iPhone for now. Android is coming.

For every people and language

Christians sing in their own language, and they have done that for a very long time. We want those songs to be easy to find, wherever you are. A hymn someone sings in one country, you should be able to find and read in another.

Where the songs come from

Most of them come from old hymnals that are free to use now, so out of copyright. We find them in library collections and check each text against the original print, verse by verse. Newer songs only come in when whoever owns the rights says yes.

About copyright

A song belongs to the people who wrote it. If a text is still protected, you'll see the title and who wrote it, but not the words, unless the rights holder has said it's fine. Everyone who wrote or translated a song is named on its page.

For churches

If you're looking for Sunday's songs, or just want to check a verse or a number, this is for that. And if your church sings something we don't have yet, tell us. We'll look for it.

Translators and publishers

Did you translate a hymn, or do you publish songbooks or own the rights to some songs? We'd really like to hear from you. We only add protected songs with permission, and we always say who wrote them.
